The Importance of Family, Especially For Women
By John Gray
One of the biggest sources of stress today, particularly for women, is the fragmentation of the family.
Family is certainly important for men, but much more so for women. Staying in touch and spending time with the family is nurturing to a woman's soul.
If you neglect this need, you will expect your partner to fill in this gap, which he can't.
Your parents provide a special kind of support that will keep you grounded in your past and history. This support creates a sense of belonging and security. Without this foundation, you can find yourself looking to your partner for parental support, or you can behave as if you are your partner's parent.
Looking to your partner as a parental substitute can be nurturing in the beginning, but eventually making your partner your parent will end the romance and passion.
If you are looking for parental support and you can't get that support from your parents for whatever reason, then find a therapist. A therapist or relationship coach is a more appropriate way to nurture your needs and make up for what was missing in your childhood.
