The Power of Sex
By Christopher and Rachel McCluskey
God knew what he was giving us in sexuality, and he knew its power. Sex is one of the most powerful forces in the universe - for good or for evil.
That is why God gave us such clear guidelines for its proper use.
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 says: Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
God is saying that, just as he was blasphemed by the desecration of the Old Testament temple through Israel's misuse of sexuality within it, He is blasphemed anytime we misuse our sexuality because we are now his temple! When we misuse our sexuality, we are glorifying Satan within the very temple of God.
Note, however, that the converse is also true. When we use our sexuality in accordance with his original plan, God is glorified in the temple of our bodies.
He resides in us by his Holy Spirit and communes with us as we become one in body, soul, and spirit. He is not closing his eyes to our union; he is right in the midst of it!
He is glorified and manifested in the sacred act of two becoming one. It is next to impossible to tear apart a Christian marriage that celebrates in this spirit of love and intimacy.
