Anger At Yourself Hurts Your Spouse Too By Gary Chapman From time to time most people feel angry toward themselves. It is usually because we know we have done something foolish. We acted carelessly or irresponsibly. Now we know, we should not have gone up on the ladder when it was raining. So our leg is broken and we are angry at ourselves. What are you going to do?
There are many options. You could verbally berate yourself. Let the record play in your mind a thousand times, "How stupid. How Stupid. How stupid." The problem with this is that while you are beating yourself up verbally, you are making life more difficult for your spouse. They are already having to compensate for your broken leg. Don't make it worse by having a negative "down on yourself" attitude.
Tell your spouse that you are sorry that your foolish action is causing her extra work. Ask her to forgive you. Then forgive yourself.
You are human and all humans sometimes make foolish decisions.
Don't make another foolish decision by mentally putting yourself down. One failure does not make you a failure. Get up and move on toward success. ____________________________________________
